Appellate courts implement various strategies to make the workload of appellate courts more efficient. Thirty seven States, by 1998, for example, had some expedited briefing procedures in their appellate court systems (table 26). Eighteen States had accelerated or special calendars in some courts for specific case types (table 27), and all but 12 States had some limitation on oral arguments in criminal and/or civil cases.

Choosing a Lawyer |
Get full clarity on the fee structure:
Lawyers may charge you for every action they take while defending you or representing you in court. This could amount to hundreds of dollars an hour. While choosing your lawyer, keep in mind that you must discuss the fees in detail so that there are no hidden costs to be discovered later. The fee will greatly depend upon the nature of your case, and whether the lawyer is comfortable with it therefore the details must be ascertained before hand in black and white.
Ask some very basic and important questions to the lawyer:
After you have furnished the full details of your case to the lawyer you must some basic questions that can give you an insight into how the lawyer will proceed. Make it a point to ask how what course of action the lawyer will take regarding your case, how long he thinks the case will carry on, details about his fee and how he will inform you about the manner in which the case is proceeding. While asking these important questions always judge whether the lawyer is trying to hide facts/ give round about answers, or is open in the way he gives his answers. It is best to work with a lawyer whose replies you are comfortable with.
